Sustainability

With the Steel industry accounting for 7% of Greenhouse gas emissions and 11% of Global C02 emissions (Source: globalefficiencyIntel.com) 'green' initiatives are at the forefront of a lot of companies minds. While it is difficult to alter the way that steelwork is produced and processed (for safety compliance and regulatory issues), CSS has to look elsewhere to offset it's carbon output. Our efforts span various eco-friendly initiatives, from harnessing solar power to fostering the growth of our precious forests through tree planting programs. Keep reading to dive into the details of our dedication to making a positive difference for the environment!

Harnessing the Power of the Sun

One of the cornerstones of our sustainability strategy is the integration of solar energy into our operations. With 207 solar panels adorning our facility, Cotswold Steel harnesses the power of the sun to cover the entirety of our business’s energy consumption. By reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources, we not only decrease our carbon footprint but also contribute to the broader global transition to clean and renewable energy. Over the years, these solar panels have enabled us to significantly decrease our greenhouse gas emissions, setting a precedent for other businesses in the region to follow suit.

More Trees: Planting the Seeds of Change

Recognising that environmental conservation extends beyond reducing carbon emissions, Cotswold Steel has partnered with the charitable organisation More Trees. Every month, we proudly contribute to this noble cause by planting eight trees on behalf of our company. Trees play a vital role in combating climate change as they absorb the carbon dioxide generated by our industry from the atmosphere and provide a habitat for diverse wildlife. Our affiliation with More Trees is our way of giving back to nature and actively participating in reforestation efforts. We firmly believe that this investment in our planet’s future is an essential step towards leaving behind a greener and healthier world for generations to come.

A Circular Approach to Business

Beyond solar energy and tree planting, Cotswold Steel has embraced the concept of a circular economy. Our dedication to reducing waste is ingrained in every aspect of our operation. By optimising our production process, we strive to minimise our ecological impact and conserve valuable resources. On top of this, all of our waste steel material is collected, sorted, and sent off to be recycled. Our commitment to a circular approach not only fosters environmental sustainability but also promotes innovation and efficiency within our business model.

Inspiring Change in the Industry

At Cotswold Steel, we are fully aware of the responsibility we hold as a prominent player in the industry. Our unwavering dedication to sustainability serves as a rallying cry for other businesses to take similar actions. We actively collaborate with industry peers, sharing best practices and insights, aiming to create a more sustainable and eco-conscious sector. By leading the way in adopting green practices, we hope to inspire others to embark on their sustainability journeys.
